Caley Thistle midfielder Welsh can finally put injury pain behind him

Sean Welsh is finally ready to put last season’s injury torment behind him after the crushing blow of missing out on a Scottish Cup semi final and the Premiership play-offs.

A broken foot in late March denied the 29-year-old Caley Thistle midfielder the first Hampden Park appearance of his career.

Having played in every earlier round, Welsh could only watch on his television at home as Hearts killed the dream.

More was to follow, with the ex-Hibs and Partick Thistle midfielder powerless to help team-mates as they crashed out of the two-leg league play-off against Dundee United.

Those were bitter experiences but Welsh, man of the match against Morton last Saturday in his first full senior match since injury, is finally back in the fray.

He said: “I played twice in the North of Scotland Cup, but it was great to get a proper first team game under my belt.

“I came through it unscathed and felt alright. It’s another hurdle over."
