Squash - Edinburgh athlete is crowned Scottish champion for fourth time in her career after victory in Inverness
GEORGIA Adderley proved she is the top women’s player in Scotland as she was crowned national champion once again in Inverness.
The Edinburgh athlete claimed the Scottish Squash Championship title for the fourth time in her career at Inverness Tennis and Squash Club on Sunday.
The 24-year-old took just 32 minutes to defeat Alison Thomson from Twickenham 3-0 winning 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 in the final.
Adderley, who is currently 22nd in the world rankings, successfully defended the title she won last year and previously clinched in 2017 and 2022.
She was pleased with how she stamped her authority in the final, and the entire tournament, to become national champion once again.
She said: “I played well and executed the gameplan in hand. Alison has been playing well recently and I knew that I had to be on form and be ready for a hard match. I felt like I dealt with it well.”
Adderley went throughout the entire tournament without dropping a game as she also defeated Carys Jones and Ellie Jones, along with beating Thomson earlier in the round robin stage.
She says it was an excellent weekend in Inverness for her.
She said: “It has been a great event and Inverness are a great club. They are really generous to the players and that makes us feel really welcome. The men’s draw and women’s draw was really competitive and hopefully we can build on that.”
Adderley has two events remaining in the 2024/25 season and is looking to build on her success in Inverness.
“I am off to Dublin on Tuesday and I will look to play some good squash there and take the form from here.
“I have had a good season, I have had my highest world ranking and this is a title I value and I am happy to pick it up.
“By the end of the year I would be like to be top 20 and get my ranking up. I don’t want to overthink it, play good squash and take it week by week.”
