Edinburgh doctor is crowned Inverness Half Marathon women’s champion for the first time
NANCY Scott powered her way to become Inverness Half Marathon and Scottish Half Marathon women’s champion on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old from Edinburgh claimed the women’s title as she came home in a time of 73 minutes and 24 seconds.
She was ahead of Naomi Lang of Carnethy who was in second place in 74.46 and Brogan Wallace o f Shettleston who finished in third place in 75.01
Scott, a junior doctor who runs for Edinburgh Athletic Club was delighted with her performance to claim the title.
She said: “It was perfect conditions. There was a group of us who were hanging back and I took it quite conservative. A few of us broke away at around mile 10 so we left it quite late.
“I am not actually sure when I was able to pull away, I knew I was near Naomi but I didn’t know that I was ahead.
“I was conscious that I didn’t want to go too fast as if I blew up I knew Naomi would be there.
“I am happy with the time as I thought that I would be slower with the hills.
“I had the perfect build up to the race.
“The hills weren’t too bad and I am glad I didn’t take them too hard, but it was a good course.
“I really enjoyed the downhill and there was a really good community spirit around.”
Scott says she will recover from Sunday’s win and prepare for her next challenge in two months’ time.
She said: “I’m going to take a bit of a break from racing and my next big target will be the Scottish 5k at Silverknowes, Edinburgh in May.”
Catriona Fraser (Inverness Harriers) won the North District title in 1:21:56 when placing 11 th overall. Kirstie Rogan (Highland Hill Runners) was second in 1:24:28 while Muriel Macleod won the over-40’s title in 1:25:20.
