Tom Walsh insists Inverness Caledonian Thistle have not lost the ability to hold on to leads ahead of their SPFL Trust Trophy quarter final against Raith Rovers.

In each of Caley Thistle’s last four matches, they have gone ahead and had an advantage going into the half time interval, but they have only come away with a win in one of those games.

It seems to be a far cry from the start of the Championship campaign when Inverness won four straight matches 1–0 with a seemingly impenetrable defence.

Tonight, with a place in the final four of a competition the Caley Jags have won twice in the last four years at stake against a team sitting one place above them in the Championship table, a strong backline will be crucial to victory.

Walsh is adamant, though, that ICT can recover their August form and get back to winning ways.

“I think the team has played some good stuff in spells in games,” the 25-year-old winger insisted.

“You come up against good teams in a tough league, so we need to ride that storm if the other team has a wee bit of pressure and try to see it out.

“You know that teams are always going to have a wee spell, so we just need to see it through because we are playing good stuff.

“If we can get two goals in front, that would give us a wee bit more comfort, but we need to stay positive and try to keep focused on trying to play the same way while scoring more goals in that.

“Even in a lot of the games at the start of the season, other teams were having wee spells and we were seeing it through. We know we’ve got that in us, so it’s just a case of trying to put that into practice.”

Although it is a busy spell for the Caley Jags, they will be helped by tonight’s match being the middle of three consecutive games at home after a Scottish Cup tie against Morton, and ahead of a league match against Kilmarnock.

Walsh, then, is hoping that home advantage can help the team move a step closer to silverware with a win over Raith at the Caledonian Stadium tonight.

“You want to win your home games especially,” Walsh added.

“You want to put on a performance for the fans in every game, of course you do. We just look at it as another game and an opportunity to get into a semi final.

“That’s where you want to be, in the mix for winning trophies. We’re only three games away so it’s a real opportunity to go and try and win something.”
