VIDEO - Record breaking Inverness Half Marathon takes to the streets

A record 2940 people took part in the Inverness Half Marathon which took place on Sunday.

Former Olympic athlete Weynay Ghebresilasie won his second Inverness Half Marathon title by almost 80 seconds.

The 2017 champion, who represented Eritrea in the 2012 Olympics in the 3000 metre steeplechase, secured the title in 65 minutes and 16 seconds.

Moray Road Runners athlete Kenny Wilson was second in 66:35 and Cameron Strachan of Aberdeen was third in 66:50.

In the women’s race, Liz Abbott successfully defended her title when the Lytham St Anne’s runner claimed gold in 77:53.

She finished 25 seconds ahead of Kerry Prise of Metro Aberdeen Club in 78:18 with Jennifer Wetton third in 81:07.

Graham Bee won the Graham Moffat Memorial Quaich for being the fastest Inverness Harrier athlete in 73:43

In the Inverness 5k, Fortrose athlete Lucas Cairns (15) successfully defended his title winning in 15:58 with Inverness athlete Emily Andrew (17) winning the women’s title in 18:56.
