INVERNESS City Lions have set a target of going through the season undefeated and winning the Scottish Second Division in their debut campaign playing at national level.

Inverness City Lions beat North Lanarkshire by 10 points.
Inverness City Lions beat North Lanarkshire by 10 points.

The club have won their first three games of the campaign as they sit in fourth place on six points with a game in hand on the top-two Stirling Knights and Pleasance who are on seven points.

They were gifted a 20-0 win over City of Edinburgh Kings B after their opponents were unable to form a team last weekend.

Despite the disappointment of not being able to play last weekend, head coach John Kerray said he was pleased they were at least able to keep the pressure on the top-two in the division.

He believes they can power their way to the title and promotion.

“I think we can get promotion to the First Division as champions,” he said.

“It is our hope that we can go through the entire season undefeated.

“It might sound a bit optimistic, but I really believe in the group of players that we have got.

“They are playing well so far, but I feel that there is even more to come from them.”

Kerray said they would rather have played City of Edinburgh Kings than take the points from them forfeiting the game as they want to continue to learn playing at a national level.

“We got a 20-0 forfeit win giving us two points to move up to fourth. But we would prefer to have played the game as game time is invaluable to the development of our team.

“But we do understand the situation Kings were in.”

Saturday’s game against third placed Boroughmuir Blaze B at Millburn Academy will see the only two undefeated teams in the league faceoff.

Lions did record a tight victory against the Blaze during pre-season and Kerray is expecting a tougher encounter this weekend.

“Boroughmuir have a strong first and second team after the University of Edinburgh pulled out of the league,” he said.

“Their players went to Blaze and they have a strong second team.

“But we are confident of recording a fourth straight win, we have got a full strength squad available which is good for us as well.”

City Lions have also been boosted by the signature of Michael Krajewski who is expected to play on Saturday.

Tip off is at 3.20pm.
