INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle Supporters Trust says it has welcomed the news that the club has written off over £3 million of historic debts.

It was confirmed on Monday that Alan Savage held talks with individuals and firms that had previously given loans to the club.

During it, he secured agreement from every one of them to either write off the money they were owed or convert the debt into shares in the club.

He said the groundbreaking agreement removed “a massive burden on the club” and would be a major game-changer in paving the way for new ownership and investment.

ICT Supporters Trust spokesman George Moodie said they welcomed the news that the club has written off over £3 million in debt.

They hope it can kick start a brighter future for the club.

Moodie said: “Thank you to all involved in getting round the table and agreeing the best way forward for the club.

“It shows what can be achieved through open, honest and constructive dialogue.

“We all want to see the best for the club and the commitments made will hopefully allow the club’s future to be secured and really kick start the rebuilding process along with supporters and local businesses.”

Officials from Caley Thistle are set to hold talks with interested parties from Portugal next week about investing into the club.

Last Saturday, Caley Thistle saw a 32 per cent increase in attendance at their 1-1 draw with Montrose of 1902 compared to 1439 in their 1-1 draw with Dumbarton.

Moodie said it is encouraging to see fans coming back to support the club.

He said: “The uplift in attendance on Saturday was great to see as was the return of the Sports Bar which the Supporters Trust gathered volunteers to staff.

We have also launched a volunteers survey to members which has had a great response so far ahead of meeting the club on how best to utilise the available resources we have access to through our members.

“Everyone can play their part, no matter how big or small to help take the club forward.”
