Scotland road running internationalist Kenny Wilson was the clear winner of last Sunday’s Back To Basics 10k at Forres by a margin of exactly half a minute over fellow Moray Road Runner and Team Sim training partner Ewan Davidson.

Wilson crossed the line in 32:11 with Davidson timed at 32:41, while a strong finish from East Sutherland’s Blair MacKay took him up into third place in 32:45, beating Highland Hill Runner Shaun Cumming (33:14).

Inverness’s Donnie MacDonald was the first veteran to finish in fifth place overall in 33:48, while Hill Runner Gordon Lennox finished 31 seconds outside the top 10.

“I usually manage running on my own a bit better than I did today but I don’t know – maybe I went off too quick and struggled a bit in the middle for some reason,” said Wilson.

“But it’s a good run out to just get a wee bit of speed in the legs.

“I kind of knew that a fast time wasn’t on so I didn’t really force anything towards the end since there wasn’t really a decent time on the board from about half way onwards.”

One of Wilson’s next main challenges will be the London Marathon in October.

The clear winner of the women’s contest was Metro Aberdeen’s Ginie Barrand, who set a new personal best of 35:29.

She was over a minute ahead of Catriona Fraser of Inverness (36:41), and Jennifer Harrison of Aberdeen took third place in 38:05.

Rebecca Watt of Metro was the leading female veteran in 41:37

“There was a bit of a wind coming up and I was on my own so I couldn’t really tuck in behind anyone, but yes, it was good,” Barrand said.

“I like to keep the pressure on at the start and then the wind behind at the finish. I don’t have any immediate plans but I’m also signed up for London so it will be good to get a marathon.”
