Inverness Shinty Club lift Challenge Cup after win over Badenoch in final
Inverness Shinty Club got their redemption from their 2023 Challenge Cup final defeat as they went one better this year to beat Badenoch 3-1.
Having experienced the pain of making it all the way to the final only to leave without the silverware, Inverness were determined not to go through the same disappointment again.
That showed on the pitch, as they got off to a flying start to go two goals ahead inside the opening 10 minutes.
First it was Katie Simpson who found the net, before Grace Bremner followed it up shortly afterwards to put daylight between the sides.
Badenoch did pull one back in the 25th minute through Lexi Farquhar, but Inverness would score again before half time.
Kamryn Hughes made it 3-1, and from there it was just a case of seeing the result out as Inverness could celebrate adding a trophy to their cabinet.
It was a truncated shinty calendar at the weekend with finals at the forefront of the schedule.
Also in the women’s game Lochaber defeated Badenoch 1-0 to win the Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup, while the Caol Cup was contested between representative under-21 sides from the north and south.
Herbie Patterson scored twice for the south in the first half to give them the advantage, and although Archie MacRae cut the deficit in half with around 20 minutes left to play it would be the southerners who triumphed.
Sam Bulloch put the cherry on top of the performance with one final goal in the 80th minute to earn a 3-1 win for the south select.
