Shinty chiefs will discuss format for 2022 league season

SHINTY chiefs will discuss this week whether the Premiership and National Division league system will return for the 2022 season.
The Camanachd Association competitions committee will discuss if league competitions will return to normal next season.
It comes after regional leagues replaced the Premiership and National Division in 2021 to tackle the impact of Covid-19 and to give a greater chance of games being played.
A spokesman says discussions on the issue are taking place with a decision expected to be made before December.
He said: “It is the aspiration of the Camanachd Association to return to a normal shinty season as soon as safely possible.
“This issue will be discussed at the competitions committee, any recommendations will be brought to board at the end of the month.
“Following the ratification of any plan, the Camanachd Association will make an official statement.”
Meanwhile, the 2021 senior season ended with a whimper with only one league match in the north taking place last weekend as the curtain came down on this year’s campaign.
Lovat were unable to field a team for their scheduled clash against Caberfeidh at Balgate.
Kinlochshiel against Lochaber was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Balmacara.
Glenurquhart’s clash with Kilmallie at Drumnadrochit was also called off due to the visitors being unable to find players.
Only one match took place in the North Leagues with Newtonmore beating Inverness 3–1.
Steven Bellshaw gave Inverness the lead after 25 minutes but Craig Macleod levelled for Newtonmore five minutes before half time.
The hosts stamped their authority on the game in the second half with Tristan Ross and Brodie MacBean scoring to give Newtonmore the points. The 2022 shinty season will begin on Saturday, March 5.
