Shaw wins at Marveston North Scottish Golfers Alliance fixture

Jordan Shaw took victory at the North Scottish Golfers Alliance competition at Marveston Golf Course with a one-shot win.

The Boat of Garten golfer carded a one under par 70 to take victory in Elgin last weekend.

Marveston Golf Club hosted the trial fixture which is aspiring to gain full membership in the NSGA next season.

The competition saw a field of 80 players where the scores did not count towards the members already posted aggregate returns.

Shaw who plays for the North District, birdied the ninth hole for an outward one under par 35.

Then with a run of four threes, three birdies and one par from the 10th hole Shaw eradicated a double bogey seven on the 14th hole and in inward half of 35 to take the title.

The winner of the season’s first fixture in September at Grantown on Spey, teenager Calum Dawn (Inverness) (36/35) shared second place with club mate Dougie Gordon (38/33) with cards of 71.

The pair were one stroke ahead of Inverness’s assistant professional David Grindell who recorded a 72 (38/34).

Gordon’s playing handicap of six elevated him to first place in the low handicap section with nett 65.

He had a three stroke advantage over David Johnstone (Moray) (6) 69.

Sharing third were Kings Club Scott Chisholm (5) and Bob Stewart (4) both nett 70.

Inverness’s Jim Rogers the high handicap section winner from the previous Nairn Dunbar fixture slipped back to third place in his category after returning a nett 70 from nine handicap.

The winning nett score of 65 came from Mike Mitchell of Moray who has a 12 handicap.
