Second would be massive achievement for Highland Rugby Club in National One, says Carson

Head coach Dave Carson says it would be a massive achievement if Highland Rugby Club can go on to secure the runners-up spot in National One on their first crack at the league.

It has been a meteoric rise for the Greens, who have earned four promotions in the last six seasons out of the Caledonia North leagues and into the second tier of Scottish club rugby.

Going into the second half of the current season, Highland once again sit near the top of the table.

They are in third behind Biggar and Heriot’s Blues, but with just one promotion place available in National One and imperious form from Biggar at the end of 2019, it looks like second is the best Highland can hope for.

That would not be a disappointing campaign by any means though, and Carson insists it would still be something to be very proud of.

“Although Biggar drew in their last game, which was an odd result in the derby against Gala, Biggar are probably away at the top now,” said Carson.

“We’ll certainly keep going into every game and we really want to secure second place.
