Search for significant shinty artefacts to be displayed with Camanachd Cup starts
SHINTY chiefs have started a search for significant artefacts which will be used to enhance the Camanachd Cup at Inverness Castle.
The current Camanachd Association Challenge trophy will be the centrepiece of one of the major displays in the attraction which is due to open in 2025.
The Camanachd Association, shinty’s Governing Body and the project team of the Inverness Castle Experience are now looking for several important artefacts currently held within the shinty community, which will be placed with the cup in its display case.
These could range from important camans with a significant story, balls, which are similarly important in the history of the game and any other artefacts which will add value to the shinty display.
The final selection of the items to be placed with the cup will be taken by the Camanachd Association’s Culture and Heritage Committee which is responsible for delivering “Sgeulachd na Camanachd – Shinty’s Story” at the refurbished Bught Park.
Stories from Highland history, culture, heritage and people will be key features of the new visitor attraction in the centre of Inverness, a Category ‘A’ listed building celebrating the spirit of the Highlands.
An invitation is now being extended to the shinty community to help populate the displays at both the Castle and the Bught Park and these will be fulfilled on a rotating basis to allow access to as many items as possible.
Any items which people may consider for inclusions in the displays on a temporary basis can contact Aarron.macleod@shinty.com by Monday, September 30 and they will be considered by the Heritage Committee.
