Scottish league shake up on the cards
CALEY Thistle and Ross County could find today if they will face Dundee or Dunfermline Athletic this season.
The identity of Club 12 is set to be decided by the Scottish Premier League after top flight club chairmen overwhelmingly voted for Rangers to be removed the division, as they are in the process of liquidation.
A Scottish Football League meeting today will rule on the future of Rangers newco and could then have a say on who takes the Glasgow side’s place in the top flight.
However the decision might not be ratified by the SPL until Monday.
Meanwhile, Scottish football’s three governing bodies — Scottish FA, SPL and SFL — have announced proposed changes to the structure of the leagues.
They aim to introduce a play-off between the SPL and First Division this season which would include the possibility of relegation for the second-bottom top flight club.
The following season one team would be relegated from the SPL with three teams promoted to expand the top tier to 14 teams and the scenario would be repeated in the 2014/15 season to make a 16-team elite.
Reforms will also aim to streamline governance and alter the distribution of monies.
A working group will be formed to make sure everything is in place for the structural changes by 30th November, if not alterations could be delayed until next season.
