Nairn County striker Ben Barron delighted to be drawn against Clachnacuddin in first round of the Scottish Cup
Nairn County striker Ben Barron says being drawn against Highland League rivals Clachnacuddin in the opening round of the Scottish Cup was an ideal tie to get.
Some supporters, players and managers prefer the idea of taking on an opponent from a completely different league as an extra bit of variety to their season.
Barron though, fresh off the back of a hat-trick for the Wee County against Strathspey Thistle last Saturday, was delighted to see his side paired up with local rivals Clach, saying both teams will be desperate to claim the bragging rights and progress in the national competition.
“It splits up the league a little bit, and it will be a massive game for us,” he explained.
“Clach is a local derby, so we will be right up for it and they will be right up for it, so we need to go and win that and take that confidence back into the league.
“I was delighted to get drawn against Clach. We’ve played them before, and we know what we’re getting, whereas going to a team down in Glasgow or wherever means you have no idea what’s going to happen.
“We can prepare for Clach, and go into it confidently and take it from there.”
Nairn and Clach have already played each other twice this season, once in the league and once in the North of Scotland Cup.
Each side have a victory apiece to their name from those encounters, and Barron says the familiarity each club has with each other may leave it up to desire to decide the contest.
“There are pros and cons to having played them already,” he added.
“They know what we want to do, and we know what they want to do, so it will be a toss up of who wants it more.
“If we want it more, hopefully our quality will shine through and we can move into the next round.”
