Schoolboy Stewart adds to Inverness City Boxing Club's list of champions after winning North District title

Robert Stewart could be at the start of a successful career in boxing after becoming the North District Schoolboy champion.

The Inverness City Boxing Club fighter lifted the title after defeating Ricky Smith in Aberdeen.

Stewart (11) became the 89th champion head coach Laurie Redfern has trained since he started coaching in 1981.

Redfern says Stewart’s performance showed that he has great potential to become a professional fighter in years to come.

“It is a great starting block for him,” he said.

“Hopefully he stays at it because Robert has the potential to become a real success in the sport if he progresses the way he has.

“It is terrific he won this title and it will give him tremendous confidence.

“There might be bumps along the way in his boxing career, but to become a champion at 11 is tremendous.”
