The Ross-shire Journal understands moves to tie up an eighth capture of the summer before leaving tomorrow hit a temporary hitch.

County, though, remain hopeful of completing the deal next week, with others likely to follow.

The Staggies manager, through a productive seven days of intense double sessions in the heat of Verona, has successfully added four new faces to the three secured prior to departure.

Left-back George Harmon and midfielders Victor Loturi and Yan Dhanda were first through the door followed, earlier this week, by Bristol City winger Owura Edwards and young Southampton wide man Kazeem Olaigbe, both on season-long loans.

The latest additions, already in situ before deals were completed, were Jordy Hiwula and Ben Purrington.

Striker Hiwula, at 27, is County’s most seasoned new signing so far, joining on a two-year deal.

The former England youth international began his youth career with Manchester’s Fletcher Moss Rangers, the amateur side that spawned the likes of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, before joining Manchester City’s illustrious youth set-up. He then built experience through six different loan deals including over 40 appearances for both Bradford City and Fleetwood Town, before switches to Portsmouth and Doncaster.

“Jordy is a great addition to the group, an experienced player who has scored goals across the EFL,” Mackay said.

Seventh summer signing, left-back Ben Purrington, is also experienced with 115 appearances in three-and-a-half years for Charlton.

The 26-year-old is “in the prime of his career, with a great track record behind him,” Mackay said. “He is a player of real quality and a leader in the dressing room.”
