Ross County have confirmed the loan signing of Alexander Robertson from Manchester City.

Robertson becomes the Staggies' fourth new recruit of the transfer window in a summer where they have had to rebuild the squad from it's bare bones, signing until the end of the season.

Manager Malky Mackay had just 13 senior players available for the pre-season friendly at Elgin City, and while Jake Vokins was not part of that squad they will be losing Harry Paton to Gold Cup duty with Canada for the next couple of weeks.

Although he has never played in Scotland, 18-year-old Robertson has connections to the country as his father is former Dundee and St Johnstone midfielder Mark.

The younger Robertson started his career in Australia with Hokoah Sydney East, where he impressed scouts enough to earn a deal at Manchester United.

After two years, he switched to the blue half of Manchester, where he has made a name for himself as an energetic box-to-box option in the middle of the park – and a goalscoring threat – on his way to picking up a Premier League 2 winners' medal.

Robertson has spent time training with Manchester City's first team, and has also played international football at youth level – for Australia's under-15s, and then England's under-17s, under-18s and under-19, although he could yet play for Scotland as he is eligible for them as well as Peru.

At the end of 2020, Robertson was also named in The Guardian's "Next Generation 2020", which is a lsit of the 60 best young talents in world football.

“We are delighted to have signed Alexander, someone I have been tracking personally for nearly four years," Malky Mackay said.

"He has scored goals for every team he has played with, and the variety of goals he scores, off both feet as well as set plays, has really caught the eye. Alexander also brings an energy, hard work and tenacity to our midfield group, as well as a youthful vibrance and an elite mentality.

“There were a number of clubs interested in Alexander as he is a really promising young talent and I am happy that we will be able to play our part in this stage of his development and will be really eager to impress our supporters and we are really excited to be working with him.

“We would like to thank Manchester City for allowing us to be part of Alexander's development, we look forward to showcasing his talents in the SPL”.
