Invergordon say running out at Ross County’s ground would make their Scottish Cup debut all the more special.

Invergordon could play their Scottish Cup preliminary round tie at Dingwall next week.
Invergordon could play their Scottish Cup preliminary round tie at Dingwall next week.

The club’s Twitter account responded to a query about where their preliminary round match against Newtongrange Star would take place by saying they would be going to the Global Energy Stadium in Dingwall.

That is not yet 100 per cent confirmed – although manager Gary Campbell does not anticipate any issues in getting it signed off.

“We are looking to play it at Ross County, but it still has to go through the Scottish FA to get approval,” he said.

“Someone has jumped the gun by tweeting it out.

“We’ve heard from the Scottish FA that it shouldn’t be a problem, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

“It would have been possible to play in Invergordon, but we’d have had to jump over so many hurdles.

“Our assistant manager is the chairman at Ross County’s son, so he kindly offered to let us play at Ross County.

“It would be a great facility for us, and great for the boys to get to play there.”

This year is Invergordon’s first time entering the Scottish Cup after a new rule was agreed that the North Caledonian League champions could take part.

Previously, the competition was only open to clubs with a Scottish FA licence, so it will be a big milestone regardless of the result.

There is no doubt, either, that running out at a Premiership stadium next weekend would only add to the occasion.

“We’ve played there previously in the North of Scotland Cup, I think it was a couple of years ago, but it’s still a great facility,” Campbell reasoned.

“It’s very kind of Ross County and their chairman to allow us to go and play there.

“It will be a boost not just for us, but the opposing team as well.

“It would make it more special. I hope it will be a good occasion that everyone enjoys, so we’re looking forward to it.”
