Inverness Caledonian Thistle win 4-2 on penalties.

INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle scraped through to the semi finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Clyde.

Mark Ridgers saved penalties from Tony Wallace and Chris McStay after a nervous 90 minutes.

Nikolay Todorov, Carl Tremarco, Coll Donaldson and James Keatings kept their cool in the shoot-out to send Inverness into the last four.

Caley Thistle Academy director Charlie Christie joined Barry Wilson and Ryan Esson in the dugout as manager John Robertson and assistant manager Scott Kellacher were missing due to illness.

Inverness made four changes to the team that were beaten 3-0 at Arbroath last week in the Scottish Championship.

Aaron Doran, James Vincent, Mitch Curry and Jordan White came into replace James Keatings, David Carson, Tom Walsh and Nikolay Todorov.

Inverness had their first chance of the match after 10 minutes when White was fouled at the edge of the box and his free kick went over the bar.

White went close to giving Inverness the lead when he beat the Clyde defence to Miles Storey’s cross from the right wing with a diving header which went inches over the bar.

Clyde had a chance 10 minutes from half time when Darren Smith blocked a sloppy pass from Jamie McCart which landed to Ross Lyon.

He sent through Smith who charged into the box with only the goalkeeper to beat. But Mark Ridgers blocked his shot and gathered at the second time of asking.

Doran came close to giving Inverness the lead when he fired a low drive from 12 yard which was well saved by goalkeeper David Mitchell.

Inverness escaped at the start of the second half when the defence allowed the ball to fall 12-yards from goal to find Tony Wallace but he shot straight at Ridgers.

Wallace continued to cause trouble when he was allowed to latch on to a throw-in to the box but fired his shot wide from 12-yards.

Clyde had a golden chance to take the lead eight minutes from time when Kieran Duffie won the ball off James Vincent and sent through Chris McStay.

His shot from 20 yards looked to be heading to for the top-left corner forcing a great save from Ridgers.

Miles Storey came close to winning it for Inverness when he charged down the right wing and shot from a tight angle forcing a good save from Mitchell.

Nikolay Todorov also had a chance at the death when his header from 12-yards landed straight into the hands of Mitchell as the game went to penalties.
