Ridgers frustrated by conceding late goals despite wins

MARK Ridgers spoke about his frustration as a goalkeeper on conceding two late goals despite still beating Alloa Athletic.

But he says points take priority over performances as Inverness Caledonian Thistle have moved to third place in the Championship and comfortably in the play-off zone.

Caley Thistle were cruising at 3-0 with 10 minutes to go on Tuesday night but were left hanging on after Alloa reduced the deficit to one in injury time.

Ridgers says the two late goals left him and his team-mates disappointed.

"We were all frustrated and as a goalkeeper I was too.

"You want to keep clean sheets and we were in control of the game for a good 80 minutes.

"When you look at the goals we lost, it's a silly challenge from Jamie McCart for the penalty and I managed to get something on it.

"The second goal was a mad deflection.

"The scoreline didn't reflect the game, I thought we were brilliant in moving the ball around to get the three goals and looked comfortable at 80 minutes and we did enough to see the game out."

Falkirk are just one point above the relegation play-off zone occupied by Partick and four from bottom placed Alloa.

Ridgers is aware that Falkirk are fighting to keep their Championship status, but says Inverness must only be concerned about cementing their place in the promotion play-offs.

"Since the turn of the year Falkirk have brought in new players and have had a couple of good results.

"Down the bottom it is quite tight but we have to learn to just look at ourselves.

"We have to try and get many wins as possible to secure the play-off spot."

After Tuesday, we have to keep building. To get to the play-offs was our aim at the start of the season and we are on course to do that."

Inverness have been in and out of the play-off zone all season but midway through the campaign were held to seven draws in a row.

But having won three games-in-a-row in the league for the first time this season and six out of their last seven in all competitions, Ridgers says the belief was always there they could be in the top four in the final stage of the campaign.

"When you look at the table, we always believed we could do it. We have never been far off it and we haven't been below sixth all season.

"It is frustrating with the draws but these extra points mean a lot to us.

"We are five points ahead of Dunfermline and now we are ahead of Ayr, the pressure is now on them to pick up points.

"The way you look at it we are coming on to a bit of form now, we need to keep getting wins. "Going back to Tuesday, it doesn't matter about how you win, we want to get maximum three points from every game."
