PICTURES: Oar-some action as top rowers from across Scotland compete in Inverness

Top athletes from across Scotland headed to Inverness to take part at the Caley Marina Fours/Quads and Small Boats Head which took place last weekend.

Organisers welcomed over 700 crews which was the biggest entry of rowers in the event’s history as they took to the water on Saturday and Sunday.

Racing was held over 4500 metres on a stretch of water on the Caledonian Canal between Dochgarroch and the Inverness Rowing Club boathouse at Torvean.

The competition was split into three divisions which took place across the two days.

There was major success for rowers from Inverness Rowing Club who picked up victory in a number of events over the course of the weekend.

Steven Andrews and Neil Paul picked up victory in the Masters Coxless Pairs.

Andrews also celebrated success by winning in the Restricted Two Singles Sculls.

Alan Sinclair won two gold medals in the Masters Singles Sculls on Saturday and also the Open Singles Sculls on Sunday.

Club secretary Tim Latham and the club captain Adrian Hopkins won the Open Restricted Coxless Pairs on Sunday.

There was also success for Junior 14’s single sculler Wilbur Grant who came out on top in his category.

Glasgow University had the fastest men’s crew with Edinburgh University having the fastest women’s crew.

Inverness Rowing Club honourary president Roy Sinclair says it was a successful two days of competition.

He said: “Competitions all ran to time, despite a heavy shower that happened on Sunday.”
