PICTURES Nairn Turkey Trot is another runaway success on Boxing Day





RUNNERS trotted along the streets of Nairn on Boxing Day as the town held its annual festive tradition which has been running for almost four decades.

The Nairn Turkey Trot took place on Thursday as runners took part in the 5k challenge with a difference.

The winner is not decided by who is the fastest runner, but by whose guess is closest to what time they think that they will be able to complete the course.

For the first time, the event accepted online entries on the day to register for the challenge. But athletes also had the option of entering in the traditional way of registering at the Seamens Hall.

A new chip time system was also introduced which was brought in to calculate who was the winner of the race.

The race followed the traditional course of the start and the finish line at the Maggot Playing Field while also running alongside the riverside.

Runners were also encouraged to take part in fancy dress which would entitle them to enter for free.

It turned it into a colourful event with costumes ranging from dinosaurs to vegetables.

The men’s winner was revealed to be Lochlan Hodge who correctly predicted he would finish in 35 minutes and 39 seconds.

Brodie Stewart was in second place as his prediction was only two seconds slower after he finished the course in 24.37.

The joint women’s winners both were only one second away from their predicted time. Anna Mackenzie finished in 25.59 and Bella Cruickshank finished in 26.59.

Lucas Cairns from Fortrose was the fastest time in the men’s race finishing in 15.38, much quicker than his predicted time of 16:30.

Caitlyn Heggie from Muir of Ord was the fastest woman on the day finishing in 17.58, quicker than her predicted time of 18.20.
