Aberdeen Amateur Athletic Club athlete wins Inverness 5k title in her first time at the race
Physical Education teacher Carolyn Cameron taught the chasing pack a lesson as she claimed victory at the Inverness 5k on Sunday.
The 25-year-old Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club athlete took the title in a personal best time of 17:44.
She was four seconds ahead of River Ness 5k champion Millie Glass-Park of Young Meldrum Harriers who finished in 17:48 with Emily Beastall of Inverness Harriers in third place in a time of 18:25.
Cameron (25), who teaches at Kemnay Academy in Aberdeenshire, was delighted to claim the title with a personal best time.
“That’s my best by four or five seconds so I am pleased and can’t really complain.
“I had never been to Inverness until this weekend, it was a very new experience, but a nice route along the river and very flat. It was such a nice day and very little wind.
“I have been with Aberdeen Amateur Club for a few years and been with Edinburgh Athletic Club before that.
“I will look to do more one or two more 5k’s and aim for the track season as I usually do 1500 metres.”
In the Inverness Half Marathon, Dundee athlete Jamie Crowe won the men’s title with Nancy Scott winning the women’s title.
