Disappointment as organisers call off Kessock Ferry Swim in Inverness due to forecasted weather conditions which will make event unsafe
The biggest outdoor swimming event in the Highlands that was due to take place this weekend has been forced to cancel.
The Kessock Ferry Swim will not be taking place on Sunday due to forecasted weather conditions which will make the event unsafe for swimmers.
Organisers and outdoor charity Aban Outdoors says there is no possibility of the event being rearranged this year which means it will not take place in 2025.
Hunderds of swimmers were due to swim from South Kessock Pier to North Kessock Pier and back again to raise money for Aban Outdoors which supports young people take part in outdoor activities.
A spokeswoman for the Kessock Ferry Swim said: “We are very sorry to announce that the 2025 Kessock Ferry Swim has been cancelled.
“Our expert water safety team has been meeting throughout the week, constantly assessing all the best information available.
“The current weather forecast is for gusts around 20mph / Force 4, with a worsening trend over the next 48 hours.
“The sea state on Sunday morning is therefore likely to be small waves with fairly frequent white horses. We cannot safely stage the event we all love in these conditions.
“There is no possibility to reschedule the event this year due to the complex combination of tide times and many other factors which are necessary.”
This year was due to be the fourth consecutive year that the Kessock Ferry Swim took place. Last year, over 230 people took part in the event. They raised over £15,000 for charity.
The Kessock Ferry Swim dates back as far as 1946 and was reintroduced in 2022. as well as taking place in 2023 when over 270 people took part.
