CLACHNACUDDIN’S homecoming to Merkinch didn’t prove to be a happy one as they suffered defeat to Formartine United.
It was the first game at Grant Street Park since December 7 after a fire caused significant damage to the dressing room and kit room on Christmas Eve.
Temporary accommodation was placed in the club car park to allow the match to go ahead.
Tonight also saw midfielder John Macaskill say goodbye to Clachnacuddin as he played his final game after 13 years at the Lilywhites.
After a quiet first quarter, Formartine had the first shot on target after winning a free kick at the edge of the box.
Kieran Lawrence fired the ball through the defensive wall towards the bottom right corner. But goalkeeper Douglas Maclennan was equal to the shot.
The visitors continued to pressurise as Aaron Norris tore down the right wing and sent a cross to the edge of the six yard box which found Connor Gethins but he nodded wide of the left post.
But the visitors took the lead eight minutes before half time as Connor Gethins was unchallenged in the six-yard box to nod Daniel Park's cross from the right wing off inside the right post into the net.
Clachnacuddin started the second half brightly and had a golden chance to equalise when Eachainn Miller got on the end of a Blair Lawrie free kick at the edge of the six yard box but nodded wide of the left post.
Goalkeeper Maclennan kept Clachnacuddin in the game with impressive saves from shots by Craig Mckeown and Jonathan Crawford.
But the visitors did double their advantage 15 minutes from time when Garry Wood connected with a cross into the box and was allowed time to fire into the bottom left corner of the net.
Wood killed off the game five minutes from time with an excellent solo run into the box before firing past Maclennan.
