No festive cheer for Nairn County as they go down to heavy defeat
Nairn County’s difficult season in the Highland League continues as they proved no match for Banks O’Dee in a 4-1 defeat at Station Park.
The defeat means Nairn County remain in 12th place in the Highland League on 23 points with just six wins from their 19 matches in the Highland League this season.
Defender Brodie Watson made his debut for Nairn County after impressing during a loan spell at North Caledonian League club Inverness Athletic.
Despite the heavy defeat, Nairn County did create chances to go in front early on. Tyler Eadie forced a great save from Banks O’Dee goalkeeper Daniel Hoban and he then blocked the rebound shot from Ben Kelly.
But the Aberdonians took the lead midway through the first half when Liam Duell got on to the end of a delivery from Michael Philipson and he fired past Lewis Munro.
Philipson then found the net eight minutes from half time to double the visitors’ advantage as they went into the break 2-0 in front.
Ten minutes into the second half, Iain Vigurs sent in a pass after pouncing on a loose ball in the Nairn defence which was met by Kane Winton who fired home.
Philipson then made it 4-0 with 12 minutes remaining when he cut in from the wing before charging into the box and firing past Munro.
Nairn did grab a consolation when after Hoban blocked a shot from Matty Wright, Gary Kerr was the first to react to the rebound to score.
Nairn County are set to return to action on Saturday when they head to Speyside to take on Rothes at Mackessack Park with kick-off at 3pm.
