Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s hopes of making the play-offs took a blow as they conceded the lead to draw with Dundee.

Caley Thistle were reduced to nine men when Scott Allardice and Brad McKay were sent off in the second half.

Daniel MacKay thought he grabbed a late winner for Inverness with seven minutes remaining.

But Lee Ashcroft rescued a point for Dundee when he nodded Charlie Adam’s cross 60 seconds later.

The draw means Inverness are one point adrift of the play-off zone with Dunfermline in fourth as both teams have two games remaining.

Inverness made one change to the team that were beat 2-1 by St Mirren in the Scottish Cup as Shane Sutherland came in for Miles Storey who was relegated to the bench.

In a quiet first half, Inverness had a chance early on when MacKay latched on to a route one punt and charges into the box but forced a fine save from Adam Legzdins.

Dundee had a great chance when the ball fell kindly to Danny Mullen, but his powerful shot was deflected out for a corner.

The best chance before the break came midway through the first half, when Nikolay Todorov broke free down the left wing and his cross found MacKay at the edge of six-yard box whose shot was blocked with Shane Sutherland shot also saved by Legzdins.

Inverness had a glorious chance to take the lead on the hour mark when Scott Allan's pass went through the heart of the Dundee defence to find Robbie Deas one-on-one with goalkeeper but his shot was saved by Legzdins.

But they were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when Allardice was sent off for a rash challenge on Charlie Adam.

Dundee almost gifted Inverness a goal when Legzdins picked up a passback and conceded an indirect free kick, but Todorov smashed the effort against the wall.

The visitors came close to taking the lead when Liam Fontaine connected with Adam corner but nodded wide of the left post.

Inverness were reduced to nine men when McKay was sent off for a rash challenge on Max Anderson.

Dundee thought they had taken the lead when Jason Cummings fired in Adam’s free kick from close range but he was ruled offside.

Inverness did take the lead when a long ball forward found MacKay onside and he fired a low drive past Legzdins.

But Dundee equalised a minute later when Ashcroft beat the Inverness defence in the air to nod the ball past Ridgers.
