Lawrie tips 'ideal' McLeod to turn Clachnacuddin's fortunes around

Blair Lawrie believes club legend Sandy McLeod was the ideal appointment for Clach after the shock departure of Brian MacLeod.

The Lilywhites’ stalwart of seven seasons knew the resignation, less than a year after replacing Iain Polworth, would leave a massive hole at the Grant Street club.

But the 33-year-old winger instinctively knew MacLeod’s successor was the perfect choice to revive spirits and steer Clach forward.

The new manager, who captained the 2003/04 league and cup-winning team, had never stopped attending matches in Merkinch since retiring.

As one of the fans’ own, the veteran feels certain McLeod will be given time to plot a path forward.

“Sandy has come in and lifted everyone,” Lawrie said.

“His training has been really good.

“Everyone is aware of how good he was as a player and what he brought to Clach – and also how highly he is regarded by the fans."
