Nairn County will be wearing a special kit tomorrow to mark 100 years of playing in the Highland League.

The club was founded in 1914, but due to the outbreak of World War I did not play a league fixture for another five years.

Nairn County will forgo their usual yellow and black stripes in favour of a kit to mark 100 years of playing in the Highland League – which even the players have not seen yet.

So to mark the occasion, Wee County will be sporting a change from their usual yellow and black stripes against Fraserburgh, taking to the pitch wearing shirts inspired by those worn in the first match against Inverness Thistle on September 13, 1914.

“That’s a big surprise, it’s a one-off retro kit that harks back to the past,” club chairman Donald Matheson said.

“We’re looking forward to it, it’s one of those unique things.

“It has been top secret, but I have seen it, it looks very nice.

“We’ve cleared it with the league and with Fraserburgh, and we’ve cleared it with our sponsors as well because there won’t be any sponsor logos on it.

“None of the players have any idea what colour it is, they will find out on Saturday. Hopefully it will be a good omen for us.”

Only 16 of the kits have been made, and they will be going to auction after the match to raise money for the club.
