Scott, who cut his teeth at Nairn Golf Club, described his selection in the 10-strong Great Britain and Ireland squad to face the USA as an honour.

The 21-year-old Texas Tech University student will fly back from the States within the next fortnight for the prestigious 99-year-old amateur contest on September 7th and 8th.

Since 2007 and the USA’s win at Royal County Down Golf Club, the biennial Walker Cup – the amateur version of the Ryder Cup – has been won by the home team.

Inclusion in the team marks Scott out as the first north golfer to make selection for the match play tournament since 1975.
