Nairn golfer Sandy Scott is into the last 32 of the US Amateur Golf Championship after winning his first round matchplay clash.

The 21-year-old produced a magnificent comeback from three shots down to defeat American Braydon Garrison by three up with two to play at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.

After qualifying for the matchplay section finishing in joint 36th place in the 36-hole qualifying round, Scott suffered from a poor start falling three shots behind after the first six holes.

However, he managed to pull the game level at the 10th and then stamped his authority in the second half of the course, winning three of the next six holes and securing victory at the 16th.

Scott now faces American Davis Chatfield in the Last 32 today with the match teeing off at 4:50pm GMT.
