Nairn furious at lack of home advantage in opening fixtures

RONNIE Sharp blasted Highland League fixture organisers who left Nairn County with only one home game in their first five matches.

Nairn head to Banff to take on Deveronvale in their opening league match tomorrow.

But they will have to wait for a month before they play their first home match at Station Park against Brora Rangers on Saturday, August 24.

Sharp says the club’s were put in a similar scenario last season.

He is furious with the lack of home advantage at the beginning of the campaign saying no other club has been placed in the same situation.

“This is the second season on the trot as we only had one home game in August last year,” he said.

“We are not happy about it at all.

“We are four weeks into the season before we get a home game.

“I think its totally unfair that we are not being given a chance to play at home.

“I can’t understand how this can be done as some teams have a few games at home at the start of the season.”

In addition, Nairn’s derby matches against Clachnacuddin and Forres, which draw the club’s biggest crowds of the season, are due to be played midweek in October and November.

“We are not happy about these two matches being played at home on a Wednesday night,” said Sharp.

“It is hard enough to get people through the gate, but there is not a lot we can do about it.”

Nairn head to Princess Royal Park without Gus Dey, Glenn Main, Ryan Macdonald and Adam Naismith.

Sharp says the club also received approaches for two of his players which he would not name, but they were turned down.

Sharp says he will be looking for his team to produce a positive performance in Banff to get their league campaign off to a good start.

“It is always hard against Deveronvale,” he said.

“It will be hard to judge what level they are at with the season just started.

“Steve Dolan always has his team ready to play and hopefully we are as well.”
