Nairn County to make several changes against Fort William
RONNIE Sharp will be looking to make at least seven changes for tomorrow’s North of Scotland Cup first round tie at Fort William.
Nairn got their Highland League campaign off to a dream start with a 2-0 win at Deveronvale thanks to goals from Liam Shewan and Gordon McNab.
But as he looks ahead to next weekend’s league clash at Huntly, Sharp says he has several changes in mind for the trip to Claggan Park.
“Fort William will be a tougher prospect than last season,” he said referring to the nine loaned players from Caley Thistle to Fort William.
“But we will be looking to make a lot of changes to our team on Wednesday too.
“We have three games in a week so it was always planned to make a lot of changes.
“We will be looking to make seven changes but some of the boys who played on Saturday will play on Wednesday.
“We have a squad of players who all need games and the start of the season is always hectic.”
Striker Max Ewan will miss the trip after picking up a knock in Banff.
Sharp, who blasted Highland League fixture organisers who left them with one home match in their first five league games, has also criticised the way the North of Scotland Cup has been organised.
The draw for the quarter finals and semi finals were made at the same time as the first round leaving Nairn requiring three away wins to make the final.
The winner of Wednesday night’s match will face a trip to Rothes in the quarter final.
Sharp says the draw for the quarter final stage should have taken place after the first round matches.
He said the way the fixtures have been pre-determined has taken the gloss out of the tournament.
“The draw has been hard on us along with the league fixtures at the start of the season.
“I don’t know why the draw for all of the rounds has been made at the same time.
“I am not fan of how it has been done. If you win a cup tie you should look forward to the unknown draw in the next round.
“I think it has taken the excitement out of it.”
