Nairn County see red as they suffer defeat in Highland League
NAIRN County threw away the lead as they went down to defeat against Deveronvale in a 2-1 defeat at Banff last weekend.
It was a disappointing defeat for Nairn who also finished the game with 10 men after Nairn captain Fraser Dingwall was sent off on the hour mark.
But he did get Nairn off to a good start when he scored to give them the lead after nine minutes.
He was unchallenged at the back post to meet a cross and nodded it into the net to put them in front at Princess Royal Park.
Nairn had a great chance to double their advantage on the half hour mark when Sam Gordon was one-on-one with goalkeeper Ethan Hopkinson.
But he was unable to find a way past him to find Nairn’s second goal.
Deveronvale did equalise just before half time when they won a penalty when Jack Walker conceded a foul on the box after an ill timed challenge on Jack Mitchell.
Harry Noble maintained his composure to beat Lewis Munro from 12-yards out to make it 1-1.
Nairn County were also awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half when Jaydan Bradford fouled Kenny Mackenzie in the box.
But Ben Barron was unable to capitalise after he fired his penalty kick wide of the post as the match remained level.
Dingwall was then sent off on the hour mark when he received a straight red card for a late challenge on Mitchell.
Deveronvale made the man advantage count as with 20 minutes remaining as substitute Oleg Dlugosz beat his marker in the box to fire a low drive into the bottom corner of the net from eight yards.
The defeat means Nairn County are in 12th place in the Highland League on 22 points as they have now reached the halfway point of the campaign.
In an inconsistent season, Nairn County have won six and lost seven of their league matches this season.
They will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they are set to face Buckie Thistle at Station Park in Nairn.
Nairn County are then not in action due to Scottish Cup matches which are set to take place on Saturday, November 30.
They are also not in action on Saturday, December 7 due to the Highland League Cup quarter finals.
Their next match after this weekend is Saturday, December 14 when they are at home to Clachnacuddin.
