NAIRN County fell at the first hurdle in the Highland League Cup as they were well beaten at Rothes.
The visitors had a bright start with Max Ewan having the first chance at goal for Nairn County but his shot was easily saved by Ewan Macdonald.
Nairn threatened minutes later when Scott Davidson beat the Rothes defence in the air to Cohen Ramsay's free kick but nodded just wide of the right post.
They were made to pay for missed chances as Rothes took the lead midway through the first half. Steven Anderson beat Nairn’s defence to a long ball from midfield and charged into the box. He fired a low drive past goalkeeper Dylan Maclean into the bottom left corner of the net.
Rothes doubled their advantage four minutes before half time when Anderson charged towards the byline and played it back for Alisdair Sutherland in the six-yard box who was unchallenged to fire into the net.
The game was over as a contest three minutes into the second half when Anderson latched on to a long ball from midfield and fired into the net from a tight angle from 12 yards for his second of the night.
Adian Wilson made it four in the 77th minute with a thunderous low drive from 25 yards which flew straight into the net.
Liam Shewan grabbed a consolation for Nairn four minutes from time with a strike from close range.
