Nairn County missed the chance to move back into the top half of the Highland League when they went down 2-1 to Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park.

Buckie Thistle took the lead after three minutes when Joe McCabe bulleted home a header from a corner kick.

The hosts doubled their advantage on the half hour mark when Jack MacIver scored a free-kick.

Nairn County pulled one back before half time when Ben Barron latched on to a pass from Ross Hardie and he rounded the goalkeeper before firing into the net.

However they were unable to find an equaliser as Buckie Thistle held on.

The defeat means Nairn County are in 10th place. They return to action on Saturday when they face Huntly at Christie Park.
