Nairn County Cricket Club end season with defeat against Elgin.
Nairn County Cricket Club ended their NOSCA Senior League season in disappointing fashion as they lost to Elgin by seven wickets at The Links.
Nairn, playing with only 10 players, won the toss and chose to bat first, initially in squally showers. Dave Wolton and Chris Woodward opened the batting and made a steady stand of 27 before Wolton was caught behind of the bowling of Chalmers.
There then followed a number of useful stands featuring Matt Millward, Martin Bronkhorst, Mike Davies and Nick Day.
However, none of these were substantial enough to take the game away from Elgin who bowled accurately throughout.
After top-scorer Davies was out for 35 it was the Rob Quilliam show for Elgin. Quilliam proceeded to knock-over Nairn's lower order to end with figures of 5-26 and he was by no means finished there. Nairn finally completed their innings on 124/9 from 36 overs.
Quilliam and Wimble opened the batting for Elgin, with Quilliam dominating the partnership of 20 before Wimble was out for 1 off the bowling of Dave Wolton.
Despite two further wickets from Wolton and Bronkhorst, Quilliam dominated proceedings and he ended up scoring 112 not out from Elgin's final total of 128, achieved in just 19 overs.
Nairn's Sunday side have three remaining fixtures in the Development League. They are away to Highland on Sunday before they're back at The Links on Sunday, September 8 in a home match against Huntly.
