Nairn County confirm appointment of Brian Macleod and Alan Geegan as interim managerial team until end of the Highland League season
Nairn County have confirmed the appointment of Brian Macleod as interim manager until the end of the current Highland League season.
The former Clachnacuddin boss had prepared the side for last weekend’s scheduled match against Formartine United before the fixture was postponed, being assisted by ex-St Duthus boss Alan Geegan.
Their new roles came in the wake of Ross Tokely’s exit from Station Park last week, parting ways with Nairn by mutual consent.
Club chairman Mark Kelman had said that Nairn were willing to take their time to ensure they made the right appointment, and revealed that Macleod was one of the names under consideration for the role.
Now, Macleod will get the chance to prove himself between now and the summer as he and Geegan take on the role on an interim basis.
Kelman said in a statement: "We are delighted that Brian and Alan have agreed to stay on with us and take over the running of the team until the end of the season.
"Our director of football, Graeme Macleod, has had discussions with them both this week and we have now come to an arrangement which suits everyone and allows all parties the time to decide which direction we wish to move in ahead of the new season.
"It is clear that Brian has the respect of all the players in the dressing room and I am sure they will respond positively to his ideas in the coming weeks, starting with Saturday's home match against Lossiemouth.
"I would like to thank Brian and Alan for stepping up and supporting us at what is a challenging and uncertain time for the club and the squad and we hope that this level of stability gives us the platform to push forward and try to improve our league position as much as possible before the season comes to an end."
It is Macleod’s latest role with the Wee County, having served the club as player, captain, reserves assistant coach, first team coach and assistant manager in various spells after first joining on loan from Ross County as a youngster in 1999 and then permanently for the first time in 2003.
Geegan joined Nairn last summer as first team coach having stepped down from his previous post as manager of North Caledonian League club St Duthus.
The pair’s focus will now be fully on this Saturday’s home match against Lossiemouth.
