Scorers – Nairn: Williamson (70) Elgin: Machado (31) MacEwan (34)
Nairn County fell at the first hurdle in the North of Scotland Cup as they suffered defeat to Elgin City at Station Park.
City went in front after 31 minutes when Kenny MacInnes' pass from the right wing found Matheus Machado and the Brazilian kept his composure to fire into the net unchallenged from 10 yards out.
The League Two outfit doubled their advantage three minutes later when Rory MacEwan swept home a cross from the right wing from 12 yards out.
Nairn threatened to pull one back at the start of the second half when Elgin goalkeeper Thomas McHale was forced to pull off a fine save from Rory Williamson from 12 yards out.
Substitute Liam Shewan also went close when he had a shot cleared off the line by the Elgin defence.
But Nairn did pull one back with 20 minutes remaining when Shewan charged into the box and took advantage of McHale stumbling to set up Rory Williamson who fired home from six yards out.
However, Elgin City held on to set up a quarter final clash with Rothes next month.
