Nairn boxer fights his way to gold in Ireland

Highland Boxing Academy's Monkstown squad won four medals overall - one gold and three silvers.

Lewis Urquhart pulled no punches when the Nairn teenager put in a sensational performance to be crowned 60kg 2003 Monkstown International Box Cup champion.

He was one of four fighters from Highland Boxing Academy who reached finals at the biggest amateur boxing tournament in the world in Dublin that took place last weekend.

Head coach Liam Foy was optimistic about his athletes’ chances of success before the tournament and was delighted with Urquhart’s performance, saying he reached a new level.
