Nairn and Brora win tournaments

Brora and The Nairn’s golf teams were the winners in last weekend’s inter-club team league competitions around the Moray Firth.

In the Moray and Nairn League featuring Nairn, Nairn Dunbar, Forres, Elgin and Moray, Nairn Golf Club went undefeated over the Nairn Dunbar golf course to record their 24th league success.

Their winning results were 4.5-3.5 against Forres, 6-2 against both Elgin and Moray and in their final 7-1 win over the hosts their line up was Fraser Fotheringham, Calum Scott, Graeme Burnett, Andrew Burgess, Fraser Owenson, Logan Gillies, Steven Pears and Walter Morris.

Brora Golf Club hosted the Dornoch Firth League and like Nairn were undefeated against Golspie, Invergordon, Tain and Royal Dornoch to celebrate their 21st winning year.

Brora’s most significant result came over Royal Dornoch who had whitewashed an Invergordon team 7-0.

Each club gets a point for each player’s match win or half, and when Brora beat their neighbours Golspie 6.5-0.5 it all but cancelled out Dornoch’s seven points.

Last Saturday nearly 200 golfers turned up at the Inverness Golf Course to play a Texas Scramble for the Brian Fraser Memorial Trophy.

The local winning team with nett 51.4 were Ali Henry, Alan Fraser, James Greenwood and Kevin Sweeney, who won a £110 voucher each.

The runners-up receiving an £80 voucher each were John Forbes and Graeme Fraser (Muir of Ord) with home members Robert Fraser and Ruairidh Greenwood.
