The 35-year-old's place in the Scotland squad was confirmed yesterday as she is ranked as one of the main contenders for gold in August.

The 13-time Scottish champion was always expected to be one of the first names on the list.

However, she said nothing was certain for her until she received confirmation.

"I don't take anything for granted, until I get the phone call and it is made official, but I was buzzing when I got selected," she said.

"I knew for two weeks before the announcement, I was in Poland with my coach having dinner when I got call.

"Everyone has been asking and I had to say I didn't know.

"I love representing Scotland and this is the biggest accolade we can do with that shirt on."

Law last represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow when she finished in eighth place.

She says competing at a home Commonwealth Games and at Hampden has been the highlight of her career.

"2014 is the best competition ever for me, I am a massive Scotland football fan and to represent my country at Hampden Park was the best thing in the world," she said.

"The crowd was amazing and everything about the experience was phenomenal.

"In front of a home crowd it was a dream come true, I don't think anything, whatever I do, will ever top that.

"But Birmingham will be another home-ish games for me and will be just as good I bet."

Law's best throw at the 2014 Commonwealth Games was 54 metres and 68 centimetres. But she has gone on to reach further distances.

In 2020, she became British champion when she threw 57.95 centimetres.

Last year, she threw a personal best of 60 metres and 13 centimetres and also competed in the European Athletics Team Championships where she won bronze.

A hip injury in January has impacted Law's performances during 2022, but she is confident she can be back to her best for Birmingham in August.

"It has been a weird season as there have been three majors to qualify for," she said.

"Last season was the season of my life and I assumed it would carry on.

"Then I got injured in January and I kind of rushed back as there were other things to qualify for.

"I didn't give myself the time I needed to sort it properly, I rushed back in February and it has been a weird season.

"If I known things that I do now it would have been a different season than what it has been.

"I've still had my third best throw ever this year, but the rest is not where I want to be.

"We are going into season two, regrouping and getting the head down for Birmingham.

"The second part of the season I will make a good part of this season."

Law, who is now based at Loughborough, is competing for Sale Harriers in the National Athletics League today, before fully focussing on the Commonwealth Games.

Last weekend, she finished second at the UK Athletics Championship behind rival and best first Jade Lally from England.

While not content with her performances during 2022, she believes if she can recapture her form from last year, she has every chance of standing on the podium at the Alexander Stadium.

"My aim is to go and win a medal, my form last year makes me believe that I can go and win a medal," she said.

"My best friend Jade Lally is my main rival, and the Jamaicans will also be strong contenders.

"But anything can happen on the day."
