Black Isle discus athlete throws herself into Great Britain selection contention
Discus thrower Kirsty Law put herself into pole position for another full Great Britain selection with her biggest ever opening distance of the season.
The Munlochy athlete threw 56.38 metres at the UK Inter Counties Championship at Loughborough the longest opening throw of the season of her 20 year career.
This victory by a margin for five metres also won her the British Athletics Supporters’ award for the top performance of the match.
The Great Britain selectors are set to select their team for an international throws meeting in Leiria in Portugal on Saturday, March 21.
Law flies to that venue on Thursday for another event this Saturday and will stay on for another week if selected.
“It was great to throw that distance so early even before you take into account the conditions,” she said.
“Because there was an unhelpful tail wind to contend with and also, while they resurfaced the circle to make it less smooth, it’s still not quite right. That was a really good effort, though, and I do hope that I’ll get this selection.
"I did think about not competing this weekend in case a poor effort messed up my chances but I’m really glad I did now.”
