Midfielder says Nairn County will learn lessons of heavy defeat in Highland League Cup
KENNY McKenzie says Nairn County are determined to learn the lessons from their heavy defeat in the Highland League Cup as they prepare to face Deveronvale in Banff on Saturday.
Nairn’s last chance of silverware was ended last weekend when they were thrashed 6-0 by Banks O’Dee at Station Park.
With only Highland League matches left to play this season, the 32-year-old midfielder says that the team are determined to improve their league position.
McKenzie, who works as a property surveyor, admitted Nairn County have had inconsistent form this campaign and they are looking for a run of positive results which will propel them up the table.
Nairn will not play again this month after Saturday due to being knocked out of cup competitions, so he says the squad are determined to make the most of it.
He said: “It is good to have another game, as after Deveronvale, we have a couple of weeks off as things stand because we are out of the cup competitions.
“Deveronvale are doing well at the moment and have had some great results including beating Banks O’Dee before we played in the cup.
“They have a new manager who came in the start of the season and they will be a different prospect compared to years gone by.
“Inconsistent is the easy word to describe our season. We have had some good results including winning at Inverurie where we haven’t had good results in previous seasons.
“But there have also been a few disappointing results and we are out of the cup competitions.
“We are playing for league position and finish as high as we can and that starts on Saturday.”
McKenzie says their 6-0 defeat against Banks O’Dee was a match where everything went wrong for them.
But he says they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves and looking for a positive result in their next league match.
He said: “Last Saturday was really disappointing for us to say the least.
“It was one of those days where everything went wrong and we got what we deserved.
“If you start moping and take that into the following week, you are never going to get that run and shake the defeat off.
“We have to learn from the mistakes and not repeat them and get back to what we are good at doing.
“We need to get back to winning ways and put in a good performance and the league position will take care of itself.”
