Midfielder says as far as Inverness Caledonian Thistle players are concerned they will play Saturday against Annan Athletic as administration worries continue
Luis Longstaff says as far as the players at Inverness Caledonian Thistle as concerned, they are in the mindset they will be playing Annan Athletic in League One on Saturday.
If administration is declared on Wednesday, it could result in a number of redundancies, including players and management leaving the club.
Longstaff spoke after Inverness Caledonian Thistle put in a battling performance against Livingston yesterday in the Trust Trophy fourth round, where they were knocked out on penalties after the game finished 2-2 after extra time.
The midfielder says the players are only focussing on the next match and not trying to think about what could happen in three days time.
He said: “As far we are concerned, we are playing Annan Athletic next Saturday.
“We don’t know what is going on, we find out the same time as everyone else.
“It is up in the air, everyone at the club would rather know what is going on. Until everybody knows what is going on, we have to go out and play football and it is a distraction from everything that is going on off the pitch.”
One of Caley Thistle’s biggest away crowds of the season was at the Home Fare Arena to support the team against Livingston on Saturday.
Longstaff says despite the predicament the club finds itself in, the amount of fans who cheered them on yesterday meant everything to them.
“The support we got from the fans shows how much support the club has got,” he said.
“We are trying to do it on the pitch for them.
“It was one of the bigger away crowds this season. It just goes to show, with everything that is going on at the minute, the club has got the support from the fans.
“To see them travel this far to support a club that is in the trouble it is in at the minute, it means a lot and it helped us on the pitch.”
Inverness Caledonian Thistle lost the penalty shoot-out 5-4 yesterday after the two teams were level at 2-2 after normal time.
Longstaff says yesterday was one of their best performances this season and hopes they can carry on their good form as the campaign continues.
He said: “It was a decent performance, we are focussing on the football and what we can control.
“All the things going off the pitch there is not much we can do about it. We have to go out and do our best at the weekend and I thought every person did that.
“The boys who came on put in 100 per cent. Given the level of opposition, I would say it is one of the better performances this season. Regardless of the opposition, it was a good game. We played well as a team and created a lot of chances. On a different day we could have had a few more goals. We can take a lot of confidence from it.”
