Clachnacuddin confirm return of midfielder Ally Gillies from Highland League rivals Nairn County

Clachnacuddin have announced the return of Ally Gillies from Highland League rivals Nairn County on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old had come through the youth ranks at Ross County before making his senior breakthrough at Grant Street Park.

Gillies soon established himself as a first team starter, showing his potential by scoring in a derby day victory over Nairn County back in 2018 and quickly earning Clach’s vice-captaincy.

However, he would be courted by other clubs and made the switch to Nairn County in March 2023, signing a two-year-deal.

He would be part of the Nairn side that won the North of Scotland Cup last season, but has now returned to the Highland capital to sign for Clach again.

Manager Conor Gethins said: "Having Ally re-sign is a big coup for us as a management staff.

“With Gavin (Morrison) being injured, we are left with three midfielders, and it's an area we identified that we needed to strengthen and who better than someone who knows the club and a very talented player at that.

“He will bring a real calmness to that area, a player who can control the pace of the game for us when needed. At such a young age, he has a real maturity about him and a lot of experience also. We look forward to working with him over the next few years."

Gillies himself commented: "I am happy to be back at the club, it’s got a good feeling about the place and looking forward to it. I’m good mates with a lot of the boys and it’s a great squad we have here.

“When I first spoke to Geth, I liked what he was saying and it just felt that it was the right time to come back."
