David Carson says the love he felt from the club made him sign a new three-year deal to remain at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 25-year-old midfielder put pen to paper to commit his future at the Championship club until at least 2024.

Carson arrived in the Highlands from Morpeth Town in 2019 and has established himself as a first-team player.

The Englishman says he had received offers to go elsewhere, but said one of the reasons he decided to stay was the love he felt from the club and the support from the fans during his time in Inverness so far.

“We are on a good run and have a good set of players and I feel that I am loved by the club and I am liked by the fans,” he said.

“On social media I have had good comments, we have a great bunch of lads and a good vision of what the club wants to do and get to the Premiership.

“Since I’ve come back from injury, I have had a few things to think about.

“A few contracts were available elsewhere, it came down to the club and I talked about it with my girlfriend as there was a massive decision to be made and I made the right one.

“I’ve loved my time up here and I’m settled here.

“As well as playing football, it was all about family.

“I am delighted to get that done and get the club back to where they belong.”

Caley Thistle head to Paisley tonight to take on St Mirren in the Scottish Cup fourth round.

Inverness have already knocked out top flight opposition, beating Ross County 3–1 in the previous round.

Carson says the club has no fear of taking on another Premiership club, saying they want to do it regularly next season.

“To go on a cup run and to play in the Premiership is what this club is striving to get to,” he said.

“It is going to be first and foremost we have to show what we are about, how good a team we are and have a right good go and get the club to the next round.

“We have to respect St Mirren, they are a Premiership club who just missed out on the top six this season.

“However, the run the players have been on gives us a chance and we are confident.”
