CHARLIE Gilmour felt Inverness Caledonian Thistle dominated large parts of their clash against Arbroath, despite playing most of the match with 10 men and losing the game.

Inverness suffered their first defeat in League One since the end of October when they went down to a 2-0 defeat at the Caledonian Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts suffered a major blow when Robbie Thompson was sent off after picking up his second yellow card after only 35 minutes.

Dylan Smith and Gavin Reilly both found the net in the second half as Arbroath went top of the league with Inverness remaining on seven points in ninth position.

Gilmour says playing with fewer men will always have an impact, but he felt Inverness dealt with it well and should have taken chances to get a result.

He said: “It makes a big difference. But I felt that we coped well with it in the second half.

“We never really felt under pressure, they didn’t really create many chances and we had a few counter attacks when we could have been lucky and finished one off.

“Even when the sending off came we felt like we could have still won the game. But it showed in the second half when they had more of the ball. But we had the opportunities to score, but didn’t. We had a big chance before we went 1-0 down and then they got a second when we were pushing for an equaliser.”

Inverness are now 11 points from safety after eighth place Annan Athletic demolished Dumbarton 5-1 and remain in the relegation play-off place.

Gilmour says there were positives to take out of the defeat on Saturday and will look to get their campaign back on track when they head to Stenhousemuir next weekend.

He said: “We want to win every game, considering where we are in the table, we want to get the points sooner rather than later.

“We are trying to win as many games as we can and go on a run.

“We can take positives despite losing 2-0 to Arbroath who are now top of the league, we had more of the ball and dominated a lot of the game.

“It is down to us to get a win against Stenhousemuir.”
