Aaron Doran says it has been frustrating watching Caley Thistle start the new campaign while he has been sitting on the sidelines.

But making his first appearance for the team since returning from injury against Arbroath, he feels ready to get into action to help his team’s title charge.

Doran missed out on Inverness’s first four games in the League Cup and Championship after suffering a knee injury when the club returned from lockdown.

He was thankful the injury was not as serious as first feared, but frustrated he was unable to make a contribution to the campaign straight away.

“When last season finished, going into lockdown and then coming back, first two days in training I did a lot of running,” he said.

“I hadn’t been able to go to the gym and I usually keep my legs strong.

“But the impact of the running I did myself took its toll to the outside of my leg. You go through all those months looking to get back into football and those two days I could feel pain to the outside of my knee.

“The injury is known as runner’s knee where there was damage to the tibia band. I didn’t think it was going to be a bad injury, once I got the scan and I knew I would only be out a few weeks it was good news.”

Doran has been one of a number of players to be sidelined through injury which has disrupted the start of Caley Thistle’s league and cup campaign.

A number of young players have had to step up to the first team in their absence.

Doran has been impressed with how they have dealt with the injury crisis and says it will be good for competition to get places in the squad.

“We have had so many injuries since we came back and the gaffer has had to play a lot of the young lads,” he said.

“But they have done a great job and it will be tough for all the lads coming back from injury to get their places back.

“It will be tough on the manager to pick players too, but it is good for the team as there is competition all over the park now for positions.”

Caley Thistle head to Tynecastle tomorrow to face Hearts and Doran says it is important to get a positive result to follow up their win against Arbroath.

“Its a tough place to go when they have fans so we have to take this opportunity when they don’t have fans,” he said. “We must do as well as we can because you have to take points off Hearts because there are other strong teams in this league.”
